Having a dance partner can make you a better dancer

Monday, I practiced with one of my dance partners, Mélanie Huot-Lavoie.

We had a really good practice, and it made me realize how important it is to have a partner you can work with.

  • They can give you feedback on your connection.
  • They can inspire you with their body movement and rhythm.
  • Most importantly, they are there for moral support when you feel like your dancing sucks.

Having a dance partner has done wonders for my dancing (I’m lucky to have both Ann and Mumu), and I encourage you to find one if you haven’t already.

Here’s a clip of us during our practice. The song is “All the Cats join in” as performed by George Gee and his Jump, Jivin’ Wailers swing orchestra.

Since I’m only beginning to savor the joy of swing dancing, I’m still in search of a dance partner. Just watching you and Mumu dance stirs up a desire to find my very own swing accomplice. It’s amazing how two individuals can connect at the sound & rhythm of the music; how they can let go of their senses and join paths for a small fraction of time. It isn’t easy to find a person who can mirror both your passion and expectations.

Ann, Mumu and yourself are truly an inspiration for any aspiring dancers such as myself. Thanks.
