Watch Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollmann at the US Open 2007
The classic West Coast Swing routine by Jordan Frisbee & Tatiana Mollmann at the 2007 US Open Swing Dance Championship. It’s an unconventional song selection, but they pull it off well. From a judging perspective, traditional West Coast dancing might have been compromised for more musicality and expression.
I’m used to seeing them win in that division every year, and was surprised by their 3rd place finish. Their performance fits the music, but might not fit the context of the dance competition. But kudos to them for the gutsy performance and bringing the dance to a new direction.

I love this video! They are so musical, and I don’t mean just things like “she goes left he goes right” to the lyrics. The tempo of their movement is great, and really captures the mood of the music.

Alain, I just wanted to say that I love the blog, it’s very inspiring. As for my comment on this video, I find it a bit ironic that this musical choice would have a negative effect on the judges in a west coast event considering the whole dance was about taking lindy hop to more “relevent” music.
With that said, I wish I would have had some time to take a private or two with Bill at the QSRV, maybe at the Tea Party.

I absolutely agree — very musical. But am I the only one who got distracted by the incongruity of their costumes and the music? If you’re going to pick out costumes/matching outfits, why pick something that doesn’t fit the music/routine at all? Maybe it’s just me..
Anyway, they’re really amazing dancers. Incredible to watch!

Alain, Thanks for posting this video. I don’t normally like WCS but this was one of the most touching and beautiful pieces I have seen in any form of dance. They and beautiful and brave for breaking the mold and dancing with such emotion.
